I came to CultureCon 2023 as a newcomer to the workplace culture conversation...
At ROCO, we’re film people. Recently, we've seen an increase in the licensing of our films to many more companies and government organizations. As a result, I became interested in learning more about how film and immersive storytelling supports the conversations happening around inspiring and building positive workplace culture.
To investigate a deeper level, I brought along a captivating new film to screen at CultureCon 2023 share with the "Culture Geek" community.
BEYOND ZERO takes you on a thrilling journey through the story of Ray Anderson, a visionary leader who successfully transformed his company, Interface, into a sustainability powerhouse that went beyond to eliminate all negative environmental impacts by the year 2020.
At it's core, it's a story of profound cultural transformation. BEYOND ZERO vividly illustrates how a company, driven by a powerful, unifying purpose, can ignite the passion and commitment of every single employee. It's a narrative that unveils the magic of aligning business goals with environmental responsibility.
Here is the film's preview:
Deeply moved by the film, the CultureCon 2023 audience shared these observations related to what the documentary reinforced about positive workplace culture...
Purpose-Driven Work. Employees became more engaged when they can saw how their work contributed to a larger, meaningful cause.
Innovation and Learning. The sustainability transformation required employees to learn new skills and adapt to changing circumstances. It also allowed employees to better hone their problem-solving abilities to think outside of the box and develop solutions to sustainability-related issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration. Multiple departments began working together, promoting collaboration and breaking down silos within the organization.
When we shared the incredible reception the film received at CultureCon 2023 with the film's Writer and Director, Nathan Havey, he had some valuable insights to share. He emphasized that while having internal sustainability champions is essential, BEYOND ZERO underscores the critical role of leadership from the CEO in driving workplace transformations. Setting the vision and strategy, pushing for commitment, allocating resources, leading the advocacy, engaging stakeholders - these were a few of the many behaviors and leadership characteristics of Interface's CEO, Ray Anderson.
As you consider your own cultural transformation journeys, I urge you to view Nathan's words as a call to action...
Exclusive to CultureCon's "Culture Geek" community, we are offering a 20% discount on film licensing through December 1st, 2023. Organize a screening and ensure that your leadership watches the film, as it could inspire transformative leadership within your organization.
